The Upland Combshell lived in shoals, among others, in the Black Warrior and Cahaba Rivers in Alabama as well as in the Coosa River drainage in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

The last life specimen of this species was collected in 1988 in the Conasauga River in Georgia.
